One way to identify profit leakage is to decide if problems are either a Waste of Resources or a Misuse of Resources.

Waste of Resources: this is when money is spent on items or services (eg indoor plants) that are deemed not absolutely necessary. But if you removed them from the balance sheet, generally they would have little impact on the volume of sales or profitability.

Misuse of Resources: this can refer to salespeople focusing on non-profitable customers, non-productive staff, under utilised technicians, and not being clear about your company’s profit focus.
